Alternative minimum tax gets scolding.
Oklahoman – January 17, 2007
Richard Kells, partner and tax expert with Hartzog Conger Cason & Neville, was interviewed by Don Mecoy from The Oklahoman regarding the alternative minimum tax.
The alternative minimum tax is “a trap for the unwary.”
Congress has boosted the alternative minimum tax exemption. “However, these increases in the exemption are not enough to prevent more taxpayers from becoming subject to the AMT,” Kells said.
”The alternative minimum tax is just one example of unnecessary complication in the tax code,” Kells said. “For example, recent new rules for standard mileage rates for use of a vehicle for business, medical or charitable purposes. The rules call for five different rates ranging from 14 cents per mile to 48.5 cents per mile.”
